5 Question Interview #115

5 Questions - number 35 - name 50.jpg

With True Believers 2018 fast approaching, we put 5 Questions to Todd Oliver...

What will people find at your table at True Believers 2018?

Issues 1 - 4 of the comic book series, Boxes. I also sell small (A5), hand-drawn sketches.

What do you love about creating comics?

Creating a world that's 100% my vision. Be that worm shaped men, people eating other people or exploding heads, I get to please myself and don't have to answer to anyone.

What part of creating comics do you find the most challenging?

Keeping focus. Comics take a long time to create and sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming when looking at the bigger picture. Also, in the middle of a project, after the honeymoon period has waned, until the final few pages, it can feel like a tunnel you'll never the see the light at the end of.

What do you love about being at a comic con?

Meeting people! The whole comic creation process if very isolating so it's important for me to get out there and see other humans. Also, I'd say being surrounded by so many like-minded people and their positivity. I always come back from conventions buzzing for days afterwards which really helps keep me going when stuck in the middle of a comic project.

What comic - other than your own - would you recommend people read?

I can't decide on just one I'm afraid, but Eric Haven "Vague Tale" was good; I need to read more of his stuff. Also Chester Brown's "Ed the Happy Clown" is brilliantly fucked up.
