We put 5 Questions to Tara & Nadia from Tanra Studios...
Q) What’s the secret origin story of TanraStudios and how did it all come together?
We are all Bad ass superheros! Lol. Not really. It started when we went to a convention, not really realising it was a more western comics based convention, while in cosplay. As a joke, we said that we were cosplaying characters from an upcoming comic. This joke, however, became quite serious as we came up with the concept for what would be our joint project, Pandora. From there, we joined together as a studio to make that story, and many others we came up with since, come to life.
Q) What inspires you to create?
Tara: A mix of things, really. For me, there are various different things. I came up with story concepts from music once or twice. Bouncing ideas off like minded people really helps too, so Nadia has also been a pretty big inspiration when we get together. There’s other things too, like mythology and urban legends which really helps to bring up more ideas from things that are generally rather abstract otherwise.
Nadia: I’ve always loved stories some from overseas legends and art, so I thought why not combine the two…? ‘I can draw a little, so what the heck,’ I thought ‘n’ eight years on here I am :P
Q) Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?
Nadia: MONEY!!!!!!!!!!! Getting payed!!!!! Buy my shit, damn it!!!!! N making friends along the way we love meeting new friend and making connections. It’s fun to see how people do things on their end and learning from each other. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s the truth. ‘N’ we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Tara: Hm….well, honestly, it’s been a lot of fun the entire time, but I think that some of the highlights for me was probably the first time people actually started being interested in my work, and actually buying it. It felt like people actually really liked what I did and I was happy that my ideas were ones people liked! Not to mention that there were people who do really awesome work as well who liked what we did as well. Having people whose work we really enjoy liking our work too really was awesome!
Q) This is your second year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day for 2017?
Both: As well as some older comics, you can find our newest titles Pandora and Dreamwalkers. we won’t give it all away here but if you have have a flair for supernatural, drama and the funnies and a little bit of romance then were the table for you.
Q) If you could pick one line that inspires you from a comic or nerd culture as your life motto, which would you choose?
Nadia: ‘It’s you move’! Now move out the way, I’m going to the bar!!!!!
Tara: You have a problem you know that?
Nadia: I admit it. That the first step…. I’m not going past the first step *sips Baileys*
Tara: Um….anyway, as for me, it’s probably…’Equivalent Exchange’ - after all, you only get from life the amount you put in, wouldn’t you say?
Thanks Tara and Nadia.
