We put 5 Questions to Jason from YWJ Entertainment...
Q) What’s the secret origin story of YWJ Entertainment and how did it all come together?
YWJ Entertainment came about after I got my first short story published and realised that this was something I could actually do! I was writing for a blogging website at the time when one of the other guys mentioned that he was putting in a script for the British Comic Showcase, so decided to have a go. They liked the script and decided to put it in the book. So I decided to go for it on the writing front and needed a banner to release under. Since anyone that knew or had ever met me would neverseriously believe I was trying to become a writer, the name Yeah Write Jay seemed a really good fit. I added the entertainment bit as I am hoping to branch out in to other things in the future.
At the start of 2016 I joined forces with Phil Woodward, Level 8 Comics and Red Shift press, some of whom are also appearing at the con, to form the comics super-group Close 2 Immortality and have been releasing stuff under that banner ever since.
Q) What inspires you to create?
That is a pretty tough question, because the answer is everything really. I do it a lot because I love it. You have to at this level, otherwise there’d be no point. I have a big love of stories and read/watch them whenever possible in whatever medium they’re available in. They are by far the biggest inspiration you can have. Especially when you see an amazing idea that has been really poorly executed. You start planning out how you’d do it better, to your mind anyway, and before you know it, it becomes its own entity and completely unique and unrecognisable from the original.
Other than that, messed up dreams, messed up daydreams, stupid people, slightly less stupid people, real life, friends, relatives, Facebook and a massive one has become talking to other writers. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people gives you a huge creative boost and is a real must. Spit balling and getting advice from other talented writers that you like and respect is no end of help.
Q) Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?
Too many! Being published for the first time, self-publishing my first comic, joining C2i, getting some good reviews, successfully funded Kickstarter, crazy Saturday night out at LSCC featuring Kabaddi and false teeth. Good times.
Q) This is your first year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day?
At the table this com I should have superhero comic ALV #1 & #2, futuristic post-apocalyptic crime thriller Domeinion, The British Comic Showcase #1 & #2 and a but load of prints and other merch! For more info on all the books etc check out www.yeahwritejay.co.uk
Q) If you could pick one line that inspires you from a comic or nerd culture as your life motto, which would you choose?
“If you gotta go, go with a smile!” – The Joker, Batman 1989.
And don't forget to stop by their table at #TBCF2017 and say "Hello".
