We put 5 Questions to Gemma Sheldrake aka Petitecreme...
Q) What’s the secret origin story of Petitecreme and how did it all come together?
Petitecreme's name came from when I was studying overseas in Belgium. My French wasn't brilliant and whenever I ordered hot chocolates or coffees I would end up saying "je voudrais un petite creme" (I would like a short cream) instead of the correct way "Je voudrais un peu de creme" (I would like a little bit of cream). It was something my friend would always laugh at and I guess I found it endearing enough to use it as my alias and branding.
Q) What inspires you to create?
I'm a sucker for adorable design and story-telling. I've always been inspired by video game soundtracks to really help me push through tough times in creating too.
Q) Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?
Since I started as Petitecreme, I've had my work exhibited in V&A, Italy and recently just been part of the FAMICOM exhibition in Japan!
Being able to self-publish all my books (12 so far in 5 years) has really been a proud achievement for me.
Q) This is your second year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day for 2017?
More comics!! Serious I draw so many comics I hope folks will be interested in fresh original content and stories. Also a lot more bright and cheerful art prints! I hope you'll come check it out!
Q) If you could pick one line that inspires you from a comic or nerd culture as your life motto, which would you choose?
