We put 5 Questions to Richard and Derek from Fandom Strangers Comics...
Q) What’s the secret origin story of Fandom Strangers Comics and how did it all come together?
One day in the late 1970s two young comic fans found themselves working in the same bookshop for a mysterious antiquarian bookseller called Mr Fibulie. A pact was struck in the nearby comic store (both the bookshop and comic store are no more) to join forces in the fight against growing up and getting old. Having discovered the secret of eternal youth and after many re-generations (and a need to clear out the loft), it was decided that the time had come to part with some of our precious stock so Fandom Strangers comics was born in 2015.
Q) Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?
Our very first comic con as traders at the True Believers Comic Festival in 2016 supported on the day by loads of friends (despite the awful weather).
Q) What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
Finding the elusive 'holy grail' at an affordable price such as the recently secured TV Comic with Patrick Troughton cover.
Q) This is your second year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day for 2017?
Original silver age and later DCs and Marvels (mainly 1960s and 1970s); 1970s and 1980s UK re-prints; film and TV tie-in titles; 2000AD; film mags; Dr Who; annuals; Gerry Anderson and some collectables.
Q) If you could pick one line or moment from a comic, which would it be?
Richard: The death of Capt Stacey in Amazing Spiderman # 90 when he asks 'Peter' to look after Gwen (will be on sale at our stall)
Derek: The cover of Green Lantern #85 which reveals that Speedy is a junkie was the most shocking and memorable.
Be sure to stop by their table at #TBCF2017 and say "Hello".
