5 Question Interview #78

We put 5 (well, actually 4, but we like the name) Questions to Lydia from PhaseChan...

Q) What's the secret origin story of PhaseChan and how did it all come together?

Well I have been drawing ever since I was a very young child, but if you are referring to the origin of the name there is a bit of a story that goes with it! When I was in secondary school my friends and I were obsessed with the Matrix film Trilogy. When Reloaded was released I absolutely loved the Twins - they were cool new villains and had a crazy "phase" ability which then inspired my online profile name - Da Phase Meister. The internet/social media was still relatively young back then. I used this for many years for all my online accounts until only about 4 years ago when I changed it to simply "PhaseChan". The origin is still there but it's slightly shorter and cuter!

Q) What inspires you to create?

Many things, but mostly music. I listen to music whenever I can - to me it's simply another persons expression of their feelings, their art. My favourite genres are Metal ( mainly Progressive, Thrash and Melodic ) as well as Instrumental, Electronica, Acoustic and even 80's synth. To me a good song or track demands the listeners full attention - a lot of the music I listen to is complex and often quite loud but not necessarily aggressive. If I didn't draw, I would definitely have been a musician in another life.

Q) Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?

Wow - big question! I'm not sure it was the biggest but a memorable moment was when I was first shown a photo of someone who had actually had a piece of mine tattood on them - it was a Dead Space fanart piece of mine but I was incredibly flattered and humbled. This was about 4 years ago. It's so lovely to get such positive feedback on your work from a total stranger.

Q) This is your second year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day for 2017?

This time I'm going to learn from what I didn't do right last year and that was have more variety! Rather than focusing on fanart I'm going to have my prints displayed more prominently on a stand and include a lot more original work, particularly of dragons and fantasy characters. I was very nervous last year!

Thanks Lydia.
