We put 5 Questions to Alex from Saa Iko...
What’s the secret origin story of Saa Iko and how did it all come together?
For years I’d been into anime and manga and as you do, you end up collecting figures of the characters you love. I had been buying them from the big name comic cons and I would stupidly pay through the nose for them. In disgust and/or amazement my dad said “Haven’t you thought of doing this yourself?” after I lost my job and getting into an argument with a big name anime seller about the price of something I threw caution to the wind and set up Saa Iko with the sole purpose of offering people anime collectibles at the fair and decent price after 6 years of struggling on the internet, I decided to have a stall at Leamington’s first comic con in 2014 and I’ve never looked back. The internets overrated.
Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?
Probably pitching £50 into Leamington Comic Con’s Kickstarter in 2014
What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
Talking to people who visit my stall and spreading the word that Dragonball GT is now no longer canon in the DBZ universe. These are glorious days in which we live!
This is your third year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day for 2017?
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr? OH I’m having a massive bargain bin sale!
If you could pick one line or moment from a comic, which would it be?
“Why don’t you just put the whole WORLD in a BOTTLE, Superman?” - Lex Luthor. Superman: Red Son.
