5 Question Interview #88

We put 5 questions to John Pugh, the artist behind JP Covers...

What’s the secret origin story of JP Covers and how did it all come together?

I have been interested in American comics and their art since I was a lad back in the 70's and have enjoyed drawing Marvel and DC comic characters and covers over the many years that have passed.

What inspires you to create?

It's the artwork that get's me going, the composition, the layout, the colours.  Artists I admire are Kurt Schaffenburger, Curt Swan, Jack Kirby, Alfredo Alcalca, Jose Gonzales, Reed Crandell, Brian Bolland, John Bolton and many more too numerous to mention.

Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?

I have only recently started showing my work at comic cons, (my first was in September last year) and I got a Buzz when I sold the first of one of my drawings to someone who liked it enough to buy it.

This is your first year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day?

I will be selling a plethora of goodies and precious things along with interesting japes and banter!  Seriously though, along with my drawings will be prints of classic Horror and Sci-Fi films such as Attack of the 50ft Woman, The Time Machine, This Island Earth etc and stills from Connery's Bond (I must be dreaming!!).

If you could pick one line that inspires you from a comic or nerd culture as your life motto, which would you choose?

Always be Yourself, Unless you can be Batman, Then, Always be Batman!! - Alfred.

Thanks John.
