5 Question Interview #92

We put 5 Questions to Andrew, creator of GalaXafreaks...

What’s the secret origin story of GalaXafreaks and how did it all come together?

Do you vomit rainbows? Are three dimensions not enough for you? Psychedelic Science Fiction to melt your eyes and eat your brain!

GalaXafreaks is a comic book featuring inter-dimensional super weirdos getting up to cosmic capers and galactic gaffs!

I started drawing GalaXafreaks about two years ago after drawing webcomics of my hero Captain Yeah! I’ve since crowdfunded eight comics and reprinted the original series as a trade paper back.

What people say about Galaxafreaks:

“Like Robert Crumb and Jim Starlin working on the Beano with a colourist recovering from some long strange trip he took in the sixties.”-Splank comics blog

“Pawley’s art style makes him stand out among today’s artists. No one else blends the bizarre with the unconventional with the colorful to create such a fun, cool comic.” -A Place To Hang Your Cape

"The GalaXafreaks experience is the Woodstock of comics"- Comic Unknown

What inspires you to create?

I’ve always drawn comics and my childhood influences of the Beano and 2000AD gave way into the underground comics of Zap Comics and R.Crumb and the cool art scene of RAW.

I love technology too and the ability to draw digitally has opened up a whole new freakout genre for me! I draw pretty much every evening after work and would much rather be squeezing my pencil than watching TV!

Since you started, what moment has been your highlight so far?

Has to be seeing GalaXafreaks Issue 1 in print! Nothing like glossy pages and bright colours to say ‘Awesome!” The fact that so many cool dudes from around the world are willing to believe in my project and back the Kickstarters etc is so cool! It gives me real faith and confidence!

This is your first year at True Believers, what can people expect to find at your table on the day?

A smile! Plus weird freaky nonsense! I’ll be selling trade paperbacks of the original series plus issues 1 through to 4 of my epic miniseries Dark Vibes!! I’ll also be selling badges, stickers, paper toys and art prints. Hopefully I should have a some cool items from my new projects ‘Kaiju Kapers’ and ‘Cute Cthulhu’!

If you could pick one line that inspires you from a comic or nerd culture as your life motto, which would you choose?

“Mind the oranges Marlon!!!!"

Thanks Andrew.
