5 Question Interview: Guest Edition #10

We put 5 Questions to #TBCF2017 GuestRed Mask From Mars creator and Awesome Comics Podcast Host; Vince Hunt...

Q) What’s the secret origin story that led to you working in comics?

I've been a lifelong comic book fan and always wanted to get involved and create my own comics. Even when the careers advisor at school asked me what I wanted to be my answer was 'comic book artist'. I moved into a full time graphic design career but never lost the passion for comics and the hunger for making my own stories. However, I spent a long time overthinking projects and procrastinating until the Red Mask smashed his way into my life. When that happened I decided it was time to jump in the deep end of indie comics and see if I can swim. I haven't drowned yet so I guess I'm doing ok!

Oh, and being bit by a radioactive bat whilst saving someone from a gamma bomb explosion helped too!

Q) What inspires you to create?

It's more like... What doesn't? Books, movies, TV shows, video games, I'm a sponge for inspiration and my brain is constantly churning out story concepts. Sure, 99% of them will never see the light of day but it's always good to keep a notebook handy, just in case one of those ideas gets some traction and turns into something.

Q) What’s your favourite thing about what you do?

Telling stories will always be my favourite thing, but also seeing my characters connect with an audience is the best feeling ever. To have people come back for each issue and enjoy the story I'm telling... there's not enough words to convey how awesome that is. I've also gotten to meet so many amazing people on both sides of the tables at conventions too, and it's always great to chat to people who drop by.

Q) Since you started, what moment – so far - has been your highlight?

I've been hugely fortunate enough to receive fan art of The Red Mask From Mars. People have taken time out to draw my character, and not only is it hugely humbling, but it blows my mind every time. That was something I never expected when I started out, and its amazing!

Q) If you could pick one line that inspires you from a comic or nerd culture as your life motto; what would you choose?

I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubble gum.

Thanks Vince.
