We put 5 questions to The Kill Screen writer Mike Garley and he gave us some answers...
Who are you and what do you do?
Hello. My name is Mike Garley and I’m a writer. I’ve worked on Adventure Time, Wallace and Gromit, and the EMMY nominated Collider, however the work I’m most proud of is my creator owned work, such as; The Kill Screen, Dead Roots, Samurai Slasher and Eponymous.
What can people expect to find at your table at True Believers?
Comics! Lots and lots of comics. I’ll definitely have some of The Kill Screen with me – we should have our first TPB out by then so that’s a great way for people to jump on and get a sizeable chunk of the action. I might bring some Samurai Slasher too.
The Kill Screen explores what would happen to our world if computer errors and computer game errors could infect mankind.
Samurai Slasher is about a mythical Samurai warrior who goes on a killer rampage. And is based on a fakes 80s Slasher.
What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
Getting to work with so many incredibly talented creators. I don’t think there’s anything as rewarding as collaborating with others to bring new stuff to life.
What was the first comic you collected?
Sonic the Comic - It was great; it featured loads of awesome comics based on computer games. Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe, etc…
After that my first comic proper was the UK X-men #1, which was based on the 90s cartoon, but they had reprints of the American comics in the back.
If you had to recommend one comic (or story arc) to people, which would it be?
How many times has the ‘name your own comic’ gag been done? Too many? Okay: Hawkeye to non-comic readers, and Fell to comic readers (as I don’t think it’s as well known as it should be).
Be sure to checkout the Kill Screen Facebook page and stop by their table at #TBCF2016 and say hello.
