We put 5 Questions to True Believers 2016 guest John-Paul Bove...
What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
There are so many things. I have been lucky to work with characters I love and a lot of my lifelong heroes. Getting to be both a fan and a creator of the things I've worked on is what keeps me going. I do miss sleep though!
What was the first comic you remember reading/collecting?
I definitely bought a lot when I was quite young, X-Men, Spidey in particular. Probably my first was the UK He-Man comics which I got religiously. That and Transformers of course...
What was the first comic you professionally worked on?
First book I ever worked on prefessionally was a book spun off from Ray Harryhausen's Clash of the Titans called "Wrath of the Titans". That was the first book I professionally coloured though looking back at the colours makes me cringe now... My first professional writing credit was on Panini's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles book.
Which comic or comic book character would you most like to work on if you were given the chance?
I'd love to write for Transformers or Star Trek in particular.
If you had to recommend one comic (or story arc) to people, which would it be?
Midnight Nation by J. Michael Straczynski. It's 12 perfect issues of hope. It's powerfully written, emotional and incredibly illustrated and coloured., It's a great book to get people who don't read comics into comics.
Thank you John-Paul.
