We put 5 Questions to Happy Ghetto's Darrell Thorpe...
Who are you and what do you do?
Hi my name is Darrell Thorpe I am the creator of The Happy Ghetto and part of the Death By Heroism Troop.
What can people expect to find at your table at True Believers?
They can expect to find find two happy chaps with a willingness to chat and *Hi5*. Along side that you will find hand painted artwork, our hand made skateboards, vinyl figures, art prints, comics and hopefully if all goes well our book, ‘A rum Rub Gone Awry’.
What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
Creating, I love the start of a book or tale, when we’re sat around throwing ideas at each other, I’ll be sketching and showing Ed what i think it’d look like and Ed will be furiously scribbling notes and symbols down trying to make sense of it all.
What was the first comic you collected?
The Beano, I remember copying the pages on scraps of paper and then stapling them back together with different stories in the bubbles. The Numskulls were my favourite as it always made sense to me that there we’re little dudes chilling around my brain.
If you had to recommend one comic (or story arc) to people, which would it be?
Easy ‘ God Hates Astronauts ‘ it’s just crazy, the artwork is insane and the story lines are just hilarious. Also when i’m looking at my notes for Happy Ghetto Tales and think they’re to weird or out there I simply revert back to Ryan Browne’s comic and think well it’s not as mental as this… Yet.
Be sure to stop by the Death By Heroism table at #TBCF2016 and say "Hello!"
